At The Learning Bar, we strive to promote inclusivity by making our products accessible to all students. Over the years, many clients have told us that the option to have survey questions read aloud would be beneficial for students with developing reading skills. We have recently added ‘text-to-speech’ functionality into the survey so that any student can choose to hear questions spoken aloud as they complete their survey.
The option to allow text-to-speech audio will be presented when setting up a survey for your school. Depending on whether you want students to have access to playing survey questions aloud, you can choose to either enable or disable text-to-speech for ALL students. You may decide to disable text-to-speech audio if your students do not have access to headphones, if you are concerned that it will become disruptive or distracting within a classroom setting, or if you have confidence that participating students have a high level of reading comprehension.
Please note that if none of the options are selected you will not be able to proceed with the survey setup.
When text-to-speech is enabled, students will be able to click on this icon to play audio for any text on the page (e.g., page headers, question text, response options, etc).
To see a sample of the setup process as well as hear the audio in action please see the video below (Coming soon).
